Raison d'etre

We are not your normal book club. We are not looking to discuss books for the sake of filling time. We only read for thumos*.

Thumos is the Ancient Greek concept of 'spiritedness', the force that fuels our passion, courage, and desire for a life of meaning and purpose. It is the spark that pushes us to seek out challenges, to grow, and to strive for greatness.

In the Thumos Book Club, we choose books that ignite this inner fire, that inspire us to think deeply, act boldly, and live fully.

Join us, and be part of a community that reads with purpose and passion. Together, we will explore the literature that awakens our Thumos, and support each other in our journey towards a more inspired and meaningful life.

Modus operandi

Fill in the application

All of the newcomers are welcome to fill in the membership form to join the society.

Once we review your application and determine that you are aligned with our values and aspirations, you will be invited to attend your first event as our guest.

This is not merely an introduction; it’s an opportunity to demonstrate your engagement with literature. We will ask you to come prepared to discuss a book that has recently moved you—one that has sparked your inner Thumos. Be ready to share your insights, challenge assumptions, and contribute meaningfully to the conversation.

Monthly get-togethers

Every month we gather to discuss the books that impacted us the most. Just remember that we don't read for novelty, i.e. all of the latest books; we read for quality.

As a member of the Thumos Book Club, you’ll be part of dynamic discussions that go beyond the surface, delving into the heart of what it means to live a life of courage, meaning, and purpose. You’ll connect with others who are equally committed to this journey, forming bonds that extend beyond the pages of a book.
